The AEI, based in Washington, D.C., is concerned with a broad array of issues mostly relating to US foreign and domestic policy. It tends to advocate an assertive foreign policy and free-market economic policies.

The Atlantic Council of the United States (www.acus.org)

Seeks to promote “constructive U.S. leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the central role of the Atlantic community...” The website has numerous informative papers on a wide range of topics relevant to US and Western foreign and military policy and is a good starting point for familiarization with such issues.

Independent research organization which studies economic, foreign policy and governance issues. The website makes available a vast amount of informative, insightful and balanced material on foreign policy, military affairs and other issues, including original publications, articles, primary documents and other resources.

US group that is concerned with shaping US foreign policy to reflect certain human rights, non-proliferation and other concerns.

Center for Security Policy (www.security-policy.org)

Non-profit organization that advocates an assertive US foreign policy. The website offers a wealth of articles on many facets of US foreign and military policy.

Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) (www.csis.org)

A bipartisan, non-profit organization which “seeks to advance global security and prosperity...by providing strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decisionmakers.” CSIS offers a remarkable combination of expert analysis and a practical, constructive approach while avoiding an overly politicized agenda. The website offers a lot of expert and informative material pertaining to US foreign policy challenges and to military affairs.

US organization that promotes democracy around the world.

Project on Defense Alternatives (PDA) (www.comw.org/pda)

Project started by the Commonwealth Institute (Massachusetts state, US) in 1991 to find more cooperative, less confrontational international security policies and structures. The site has many articles and resources on foreign policy and military strategic issues.

US nonprofit research organization which develops authoritative reports and recommendations on a wide range of issues.

Strategic Studies Institute of the U.S. Army War College (www.strategicstudiesinstitute.army.mil/pubs)

The Institute publishes, and makes available on its website, excellent papers on a wide range of subjects related to military strategy, foreign policy and international military affairs. The material is expertly written and well researched. The authors are not unwilling to criticize US policy.

Since 1946 the AFA has been a trusted, articulate and expert advocate of US aerospace power. The website has much material of interest to students of current military affairs and US military history.

US army resource which provides a wealth of information on military topics, particularly analysis of issues related to ground force operations.

The Center for Defense Information (CDI) (cdi.org)

US-based organization that provides extensive information on US military affairs and other subjects relevant to US foreign policy and military strategy.

Center for Global Security Research (cgsr.llnl.gov)

An outreach effort of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The website has a number of useful papers related to the security challenges of NBC weapons and other technological advances.

Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) (cisac.stanford.edu)

Part of Stanford University’s Institute for International Studies, CISAC is concerned with issues of international security.

The Militarily Critical Technologies List is the Department of Defense's list of existing technologies that could permit significant advances in the military capability of “potential adversaries”. The site also has the Developing Science and Technologies List, “scientific and technological capabilities being developed worldwide that have the potential to significantly enhance or degrade US military capabilities in the future.”

National Institute for Public Policy (www.nipp.org)

A US-based non-profit organization which seeks to promote public debate on international military issues. The site contains numerous highly informative and useful papers on a wide range of topics.

US government agency involved with military applications of nuclear energy.

United States Central Command (CENTCOM) (www.centcom.mil)

Provides an overview of CENTCOM’s mission and some details of the activities of multinational forces in Afghanistan.

U.S. Naval Institute (www.usni.org)

Founded in 1873, the Institute facilitates the exchange of ideas and the advancement of knowledge pertaining to naval affairs through its Proceedings and Naval History magazines and other activities.
